The Band

Mike King – lead singer

music has been a huge part of mikes life from a very early ageĀ and having been a teenager in the late 70′s his influences have to include the punk and new wave scene. His tastes have mellowed with age but his enthusiasm and sense of fun definitely have not, which makes him the ideal man to front a lively fun and energetic band like Zuma. Living life to the fullest is a definite trait for Mike which rubs off on the audiences he performs to.

Matt Beavan – Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals

Matt started playing Cello at the age of 8, playing in various orchestras in & out of school. He then moved on to the Double Bass at the age of 12 because of the flexibility of styles the Bass can adapt to. Matt played in school Jazz bands, Chamber Orchestras & played with the Weston Youth Orchestra for several years, touring Europe. Matt decided to try Bass Guitar in a few school bands to attempt Rock, He has always been a massive fan of rock music looking up to Bass players like Gene Simmons from Kiss, Lemmy from Motorhead & John Entwhistle from The Who.

Matt went on to study Music A Level in college and played bass with some
bands but when he left college his rock n roll life was put on
hold……. until now…

Spencer Gilbert – Drums & Backing Vocals

Spence started to play the drums at the age of 12 having lessons at school and looking up to legends like Buddy Rich! During this time he was drumming for the school orchestras, swing bands and was also playing guitar with a Rock band.

After leaving his home town to go to university Spence didn’t get much time to keep up with the drumming but found the love again when he moved back to Weston in 2005. Early 2010 Spence stumbled across the opportunity to join Zuma and the rest is History!

Dan Sketchley – Rhythm Guitar

Dan always had a love of music, and a very eclectic taste at that, from Rock-Folk, Indie – pop!. From an early age he loved guitar based bands / artists and has been inspired by the music of the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Oasis and Neil Young.

Dan started playing Guitar quite late but studied under Des Henley renowned Guitarist from “Fumble”. Des encouraged Dan to Jam with friends which he loved and soon, he , Matt and Kev were having regular Jamming sessions at his home in Weston. Soon after, ZUMA was born and now Dan gets to play the music he loves, by artists that inspire him, with great friends .

Kev Powell – Lead Guitar

Although Zuma came about from Jamming with Dan and Matt, Kev wasn’t in a position to commit to the band when they first started playing as a group, however when the opportunity arose a year later he jumped at the chance to be lead guitarist and has been loving it ever since.

Kev played in my first band as a kid and dabbled through the 80′s and 90′s and now as a veteran rocker he’s loving gigging again with a great set list and great bunch of lads.

Kev’s inspiration comes from the great bands of the 70′s and 80′s particularly “The Band”, “The Who”, “Neil Young”,”Dylan” and “The Boss”!
